Brenda Camila Ferreira, an Environmental Engineering student at UFPR, took part in the MITACS<\/strong> program, which is a 12-week research internship in Canada. This program offers scholarships funded by the Government of Canada and the Arauc\u00e1ria Foundation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At UFPR, her research area was related to water resources and water quality. By mapping the research projects available in the MITACS program, she was selected to work with Professor Paul Weidman from the University of Windsor but ended up working with the same professor at the Ministry of the Environment in the Government of British Columbia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The study focused on identifying communities of algae in the watershed, comparing data on flow, temperature, rain, wind, and snow with the goal of identifying the possible impact of industrial effluent discharge on the algal communities present in the watershed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Brenda, the experience was very enriching and allowed her to make contacts. During her stay, she was able to visit three universities: the University of Victoria, the University of British Columbia, and the University of Northern British Columbia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
