Mechanical Engineering at UFPR provides a comprehensive and up-to-date education, combining the foundations of exact sciences and engineering with skills in innovation, sustainability, and industrial technology. The program prepares professionals to design, analyze, and manage mechanical, thermal, and manufacturing systems in various productive sectors, with critical thinking, socio-environmental responsibility, and adaptability to technological and economic changes. With a modern curriculum that integrates theory and practice, it trains engineers ready to work in complex and multidisciplinary industrial environments.

  • Professional field: The field of mechanical engineering is broad and involves the design, development, manufacturing, operation, and maintenance of mechanical and thermal systems. This professional can work in sectors such as the automotive, aerospace, metallurgical, oil and gas, home appliances, energy generation, and biomedical industries, among others. They also work with HVAC systems, automation, robotics, and quality control, and may perform functions in technical management, consulting, and applied research. The profession is regulated by the Federal Council of Engineering and Agronomy (CONFEA) and supervised by the Regional Councils of Engineering and Agronomy (CREA). To work legally, mechanical engineers must be registered with the CREA of their state. 

Internships 

The program requires a mandatory supervised internship, registered as a curricular subject: 

  • Supervised Internship (TMEC800): 300 hours 

Final Undergraduate Project 

The Final Undergraduate Project is divided into two stages: 

  • Final Project I (TMEC701): 60 hours 
  • Final Project II (TMEC702): 60 hours 

 Total: 120 hours

Graduate Program 

The Graduate Program in Mechanical Engineering (PGMEC) at UFPR offers Master’s and Doctoral degrees focused on training highly qualified professionals to work in research, technological development, and innovation. Its research areas cover topics such as materials and manufacturing processes, energy and thermal systems, solid mechanics, dynamics and control of mechanical systems, among others.
